April 25, 2018

When did God become more than just a word in your life?

What was life before knowing Jesus?    After?     How are you different?

When in your life did you accept Christ?  Acknowledge knowing Him through baptism?

The next few weeks will be exciting for us in worship.  Rev. Brock Brown and your pastor are working together on a common sermon series.  Each week in this series we are planning to share testimonies.  Brock is taping conversations with members from First Baptist  Church and Second Baptist Church.  We will include a short testimony from one of our members each week during this series!  A couple of testimonies have already been recorded.

What is your story?  We plan to have sermons based on some of the great testimonies of faith in the New Testament.  These sermons will help us to think about our faith stories.

For the next few weeks we will also on Wednesday Nights talk about our faith stories – right after our meal together.

We are talking about some type of joint service with Second Baptist at the end of this series.

OGHS OFFERING  (One Great Hour of Sharing)

One Great Hour of Sharing began 69 years ago in response to the devastation

of  WWII.  Today this offering serves people in over 80 countries around the world.

8 Christian denominations in the U.S. are a part of this offering.  Last year

75% of the offering went to Emergency Relief for hurricanes and earthquakes

and floods and fires and civic conflict.  You may be interested to note that monies

were distributed in Kansas last year for wildfire relief.  (FBC Winfield also had

a special offering for wildfire relief in Kansas last summer.)

We will be taking the OGHS offering through the month of May.  Last year the

total offering was $3,385,019.  (Last year, we at FBC Winfield, gave $1,834.24.

This included monies from a special dinner as well as several other contributions

in response to Hurricane Harvey and other subsequent disasters.)

The Mission Board plans to meet next week and there will be further plans for this offering.

One of the signs of summer is baseball.  Plan now to join FBC as we go to Wichita for Game Night With the Wingnuts.  Tickets are only $10.00 each and all of the ticket price will go to our local historical museum.  This will be a win-win.  Let’s plan to go and have a good time while supporting our community.  Elaine Rankin has the tickets!  Last year one of our members was selected to go on the field for some of the in-between innings antics/entertainment.  We had a fun time at the game.  Let’s plan on a great time on WEDNESDAY, MAY 30th  ….game starts at 7:05 pm at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.  If interested in going we will have several cars going…contact Elaine Rankin or the Church Office.

While you are putting ball games on your schedule, Saturday, June 16th, will be another opportunity to enjoy a game and help the Historical Museum.  The band BIG & RICH will be performing after the game.  Tickets are $40 each with the Museum getting $20 of each ticket.  We plan to take a group from the Church on the 16th as well.

Elaine Rankin has tickets for both games.  Checks can be made out to –Cowley County Historical Museum.
